Welcome to Redesign Malaysia: For Better Broadband, For the Rakyat. - Internet, Broadband, Malaysia, WiFi, Wireless, WiMax, Streamyx, Jaring and more…

This website is an initiative to improve Malaysia’s broadband facilities. It contains a broadband coverage map, articles on Malaysia broadband, comparisions of internet service providers and feature articles.

Redesign Malaysia is an initiative to improve Malaysia's broadband internet penetration, quality and reliability. We aim to achieve this through the compilation of relevant news articles, allowing users to have a voice, enlightening consumers on the options that are available, providing comparative statistics on ISPs, as well as the production of special features and commentary.

It is designed to be a community effort, to utilize information and feedback from broadband users and potential customers across Malaysia. We also aim to gain cooperation from the various broadband players in Malaysia, as well as support from government agencies and regulators.

Currently, we are focused on the Klang Valley, however in time we aim to expand this initiative nationwide. Let's all collaborate - to make fast, cheap and efficient broadband available throughout Malaysia.

First and foremost, great site for all broadband victims of Malaysia. TM’s broadband promises are a real joke. Tried out the free trial software from www.onspeedasia.com on dialup surfing. Truly a thing of beauty, dialup speeds are at par or sometimes better than broadband connection. Well worth a try. Worth every single cent. Who needs crappy broadband when dialup is faster n cheaper? With such software around, TM can take their own sweet time upgrading their BB coz no one will use streamyx if they can surf faster and cheaper on conventional dialup. Kudos to the developers of OnSpeedAsia for such an amazing software.

There was another (great) ISP that appeared in the SURF magazine, OPTIC. Known as the fibre optic broadband that provides 2mb of speed with only RM60 /month. I was impressed, I made a call to the ISP to apply, however i was replied with a disappointing answer. They could not deliver the service to my area (Puchong).

I felt most organizations in Malaysia carries the values of the “typical malaysians” attitude. Which shows their apathetic response. They should learn to value customers. If there’s no coverage in that area… why can’t they just make the coverage in that area instead of waiting for groups of people asking for it.

Organzations should always take the innitiative, the proactive action towards any needs of the society.

Typical malaysians… creates typical organizations… aiii…..

Onspeed is not a very useful software for desktop users for me tho that is. It’ll be useful for people who surf with handphone tho. B’coz picture quality is less important on small handphone screen.

T_T I am currently really sad that my location is abit too far to have broadband internet… TM surely not going to be the one I will choose because cable down (cause by cable thief), and the only choice would be wireless satelite broadband. But another problem is that some of them such as VSAT are not available for home users or residential, alsothe SMART KU-Band is far too expensive… and for 3G network, damn i don’t got a laptop… T_T Malaysia ISP just keep me dissapointed… Man… I need broadband lah! There no way a webmaster can live without network!!! (means I work OUTSIDE now …)

TMNet services has been degrading since they started blocking peer to peer networking. It seems like the company is heading toward the wrong direction. Instead of improving the services, they are cutting the services. The worst thing is, changes are made frequently to the service and yet it has not been informed to the customers. Eventually, we are smart enough to find out. Can’t wait for PenangFon and other ISP provider to raise.!!! TMNet is going down!!!

yeah! TM Net does really sucks. the price of the service is expensive but the service they gave are too pathetic. I can’t figure out why they can’t improve their service to be much better for time beings, its a big company but with a small mentalities. fuck TMNET!! does anybody know which ISP that doesn’t ban P2P usage?

MetroFON should be added in the list. It is a sister network for PenangFON, but targetted to apartments in Klang Valley. The company is using fiber optic as backbone.
2Mbps for RM60 per month. Deposit RM180, installation RM120.
Check out http://www.metrofon.com.my. Registration is very simple. Just download the registration form. Fill it up and fax it back to them. Within 1 working day, they will call to make installation appointment.

All these ISPs are riding on TMnuts back bone infrastructure. Actually, there is NO alternatives. Alternatives means:
1) No need TM fix line
2) Ports are available all the time. If TMnuts has port in one area, and the competitor does not have, than that is NOT alternatives.
3) ISPs have their own end to end connection. i.e From my home in KL to my server in Houston Texas.
Any of these ISPs can do that?
4) Most of the excuses - We have NO port / We don’t have COVERAGE. WTF! Then don’t offer services. If they do have ports and coverage, then the cost would be almost double to what the NUTS is giving us.
There is no need for third party tools/software as we are already paying to the promised services which is NEVER delivered.
my 2 cents.

Are you sure all the broadband go through tmnet backbone? When i was using a isp in midvalley, some named isp starts with M… The speed was marvelous… connection to local server within malaysia was freaking fast!, no delay at all. when i was using streamyx back at home (1mps adsl), there were delay in the response… althought the delay is in milliseconds, but you can sure feel the differences. it’s like 2-3 times faster. even for overseas connection, the speed and reliability of that isp was marverlous! compared to streamyx, it sux! and you know, recently streamyx was having problem, almost all sites and local connection have problem! but that isp doesn’t have that problem! i think the isp name is called metroplex. i will try to find out the name and post again :)

Are you sure Airzed is priced at rm100?
The cheapest for home user was RM 188 / MONTH! with speed of 1Mbs/s download and 128kbits/seconds???? wtf

August 26 2006 || 9:44 am

My experience with Airzed…
While i was at midvalley, i was trying to subscribe to their package, but i couldn’t. it was due to the system blocking outside connection when you don’t have an account with them. but wth, they even block payment gateway server to pay for their service, .. okay, they sux…

2nd, while i was using their connection at san francisco coffee… the wifi connection was okay, but… their internet seems to cut off for hours! what kind of service is this?
i’m very upset with their service, but what can be done? most coffee shop like coffee bean and san francisco coffee and raskin robbin only provide their service. Except for starbucks… but damn! it’s always crowded…

To james, Digi didn’t get any 3G licences, or wimax or whatever yet because goverment want telenor to cut out their share in digi. Plus, they want digi focusing to improve their GSM coverages first. If they got 3G or wimax licences now, they will focus on 3g/wimax services and forgotten about their 2G coverages since all the capex goes to 3g/wimax. But trust me, after telenor decrease their share in DiGi (by year end), digi will got something. Just wait.

By the way, the information above is not update. I hope the webmaster could update the information, most of the info is not relevant anymore.

anyway, yesterday goverment already awarded TM a huge contract worth 15 billion to provide broadband services nationwide. 15bil is a huge man, imaging they will roll out the services with 1 billion every year. i hope this will improve our broadband services.

Using metrofon at KL. It is call OCE. Not really good to me. The customer service never fix my problem. Being complainning for nearly half a year more every since it first install at my house. The is no good support, and also the connection sometime is worst than even streamyx for a couple of days and try to call the customer service and wrote multiple mail. But no reply.

Well now looking at Izzi but wonder if the line is as good as being told. I will try calling their customer service to see if they are good first. Hate it when you complain a problem and totally no reply. OCE cannot be use to play online games. They connection keep having packet loss and disconnect during the game causing the game to be very lag.

2mbps theoretical. You will never get 2mbps. and that is megaBIT/s mind you. not megaBYTE/s (8bits = 1byte. including start and stop bits, 10bits = 1 byte roughly.) My streamyx connection is 1mbps. So theoretically i should be getting about 100 kBytes/s download… In reality, i get about 60kBytes/s (or about 0.6mbps).
