Redesign Malaysia is an initiative to improve Malaysia's broadband internet penetration, quality and reliability. We aim to achieve this through the compilation of relevant news articles, allowing users to have a voice, enlightening consumers on the options that are available, providing comparative statistics on ISPs, as well as the production of special features and commentary.

It is designed to be a community effort, to utilize information and feedback from broadband users and potential customers across Malaysia. We also aim to gain cooperation from the various broadband players in Malaysia, as well as support from government agencies and regulators.

Currently, we are focused on the Klang Valley, however in time we aim to expand this initiative nationwide. Let's all collaborate - to make fast, cheap and efficient broadband available throughout Malaysia.

Is anyone here using the 4MBps Streamyx package that was launched recently? I’m curious as to whether its any good. You can read some comments on LiewCF’s blog. Apparently it is only for 12,000 people.

However, no one of the commentators there (or anyone I know of) seems to be on that package. Anyone who is actually using the 4MBps Streamyx package is welcome to share their experiences in the comments field or by e-mailing us.

PS: We met up with one of the WiMax winners, and they are interested in doing something with this site. Look out for some exciting new changes soon!

Wow! 4mbps is fast for our current standards but are those subscribers will eat in the same table with us, meaning using the same backbone bandwidth that is already over subscribed by 512kbps and 1mbps subscribers to the point that p2p compatibility sux’s big time? I really wonder Josh.

I’m getting mine installed this week. The TM people told me that its not using PPPoE, so a new modem will be installed. Not sure what they’re using, so the line may not be congested perhaps? I’m keeping my fingers crossed since my current 512K really sucks.
4Mbit is still pityful by international standards.

been using 4mb for past 1 week, quite good for me, nothing special about it, can be used with any normal adsl2+ modem, the modem given is billion modem, speed depends on your line quality

I think it’s not worth it due to the quality of the existing package.

They are just giving a Billion modem and I don’t see any difference with that, maybe it is just another strategy of theirs to earn more money ?

That’s great. Too bad 4MBps is not available in my location. I’m in an important area in PJ and they still don’t have the service. I was going to get another line anyway, and since they don’t have the 4MBps, I’ll just settle for a 1MBps but rest assured that even if it comes to my location, I’m not going to pay the full price. I just thought I’d get it since it was only RM198. A bloody disappointment.

Well well. Its been more than 2 weeks since I sent my upgrade request to TMNet. They’ve upgraded the line, but haven’t activated the account as they are “testing it for stability”. While this is happening, they’ve also deactivated my current 512k account, so I’m left with no internet at home. Great work TMNet. Wait… They say its not their fault as some sub-contractor is actually doing all the work. Sound familiar to anyone?

Just got my 4Mbit line earlier this week. I did some speed tests with various locations around the world and got alot of varying results. Speed was fastest when I tested with Penang and Singapore (4000kbit), abit slow in Cyberjaya (2300kbit), slower around the rest of Asia (1000+kbit), much slower in Washington DC and Los Angeles(1200kbit) and horrendously slow around certain parts of Europe and Australia (

I think…the worst ISP in Malaysia is not TMnut, but Jaring. They’ve been in this country about the same period of time as TM. But look..they’re not competitive enough to beat TM. It’s like they’re so busy with their own world. This situation will give so much advantage to TM and TM will conquer the broadband market in Malaysia. So sad…….

we tried applying for the 4mb. i say don’t bother. you sign up, they disconnect your existing internet instantly, but you’ll have two wait for two weeks INTERNET-LESS maybe more for someone to come over and disconnect all your current router connection into the billion thing and then tell you they can’t give you 4megs after all.

the worse thing is a week (according to some ‘7 working days’ guarantee) after going internet-less we checked our application and found out nothing has been done at all. also in the midst of it all the phone got disconnected too. AND apparently we can get 2megs instead, but we’ll have to reapply with Tmnet.

After using this schtick of a service for about a month, I am concluding that unless TMNet upgrades their connection to the outside world, the 4Mbit package is a TOTAL WASTE of time. I’m getting slower than dialup speeds with sites like Youtube and Gametrailers, and these are places where 4Mbit is supposed to come in handy. I have resorted to using a VPN service to get better speeds on such sites, and even then, it is not the top speed of 500Kbps that the 4Mbit line is supposed to give. Thanks for screwing us over TMNet.

I am using a 1MBPS line and its getting damn slow even for normal browsing in CBJ. I called TMNet and they asked me to do same old stories.. shutdown, restart modem after 2 min, check the speed on TMNet site…. nothing works… he then reconnected my connection from back end…. Ho!!!!!!!!!! Its still the same. It got really really bad in the last one month…. i am pretty sure that the number of connections eating from the same pie is obviously causing this. :( So sad.. that TMNet is not doing anything… they just sit and watch… or is it that they just really donno how to solve this. I feel like its day light robbery…. Its too shame that TMNet dont have a real competitor in here…!! When will they learn or who will teach them………..
