Welcome to Redesign Malaysia: For Better Broadband, For the Rakyat. - Internet, Broadband, Malaysia, WiFi, Wireless, WiMax, Streamyx, Jaring and more…

This website is an initiative to improve Malaysia’s broadband facilities. It contains a broadband coverage map, articles on Malaysia broadband, comparisions of internet service providers and feature articles.

Redesign Malaysia is an initiative to improve Malaysia's broadband internet penetration, quality and reliability. We aim to achieve this through the compilation of relevant news articles, allowing users to have a voice, enlightening consumers on the options that are available, providing comparative statistics on ISPs, as well as the production of special features and commentary.

It is designed to be a community effort, to utilize information and feedback from broadband users and potential customers across Malaysia. We also aim to gain cooperation from the various broadband players in Malaysia, as well as support from government agencies and regulators.

Currently, we are focused on the Klang Valley, however in time we aim to expand this initiative nationwide. Let's all collaborate - to make fast, cheap and efficient broadband available throughout Malaysia.

We’ll be arranging interviews with key personnel of companies that have won the WiMax bid. One we’re meeting next week, time permitting.

Who/which companies would you like us to interview?

And what questions would you like to ask? Eg, When will WiMax be available for my home? Pricing? Etc. Leave your comments, and it will help determine the interview. Thanks!

8 question designed for Resign Malaysia(Malaysia’s one voice for true broadband service)

1. How far does the company plans to commit on WiMAX coverage(are they planning in certain areas? like industrial?housing? I know that only few station base station is needed to cover KL, but which part or the city or state is their focus?)

2. What kind of pricing that customers should expect?(Pay per use? if monthly, then what is the planned rate?Is it possible to be free like WiFi in certain areas?)

3. Would they(WiMAX service providers) help make the WiMAX devices cheaper? Example: Partner with HP to offer notebook(WiMAX) in an affordable price for the Malaysians?

4. Would these companies work with TM? For Example using TM’s backbone services OR other plans that would relate them to TM?

5. P2P is very popular among Malaysian users (I am not talking about p.o.r.n but music, videos and applications like skype), what is the company’s policy on P2P?

6.MCMC requires a minimum of 1MBps of speed? What is the speed they are planning to offer?

7.Are they committed to become a national player(Example: Challenge TM’s monopoly?)

8.Why should we(Malaysians) wait for them and not sign up the TM’s Super Duper Promotion?(what should we expect from them?)

I know that not all or maybe none of my question might be included, but I hope that my curiosity is answered.
Thanks.

1. Possible price of the wimax modem?
2. Download and upload bandwidth limit?
3. How good is the technical support?(Such as hotline and hardworking technician that come to the customer premise, if there is any…)
4. If registering, how long is the contract of subscribing?
5. In Sabah and Sarawak, some of the city and rural area are ‘mountaineous’(more like a lot of high hills…), how the reception of the wimax signal?or the plan to overcome the problem?(how about reception during raining day?)
6. If a lot of users(e.g. 2000+ people) using the wimax at one area, will it have any impact on the wimax service? cause the age of user downloading little files had ended a long time ago…
7. Just asking for fun…..err….how about the danger or effect of using wimax? u know…..like the telephone radiation stuff or spectrum problem…..like interfering with car alarm(happen in europe, but don’t remember where i read it before). Is it safe to use wimax on stormy day?
8. The most important is CUSTOMER PRIVACY. Let say, if my dumb neighboard use my wimax account to ‘accidently’ download movie illegally, what is the ISP action? Will they give out the customer info? This applies to any government or private investigation too

1. What are the possible service level agreements (SLA) provided with Wimax? Is it still based on best effort?
2. Who is your target market?
3. Who are your direct competitors?
4. Will voice services be provided? if yes, will it be the same rollout time as data?
5. What is the lifespan of the spectrum awarded to you? e.g will it expire in 5 yrs time?
6. What is your capital expenditure for the next 5 yrs? (ballpark figure)
7. With 3G already in place, do you find this a threat? why? whats the impact?

Just my concerns
Thanx Josh

(1) Which manufacturer of wimax base station & CPE they intend to use? Motorola? Aperto? Are they considering the cheaper but equally high-quality
products from SE Asia?

(2) How many base stations you plan to deploy in your service area?

(3) How many subscribers you expect to sign up in the first 6 months of deployment?

Thanks Josh!
