Welcome to Redesign Malaysia: For Better Broadband, For the Rakyat. - Internet, Broadband, Malaysia, WiFi, Wireless, WiMax, Streamyx, Jaring and more…

This website is an initiative to improve Malaysia’s broadband facilities. It contains a broadband coverage map, articles on Malaysia broadband, comparisions of internet service providers and feature articles.

Redesign Malaysia is an initiative to improve Malaysia's broadband internet penetration, quality and reliability. We aim to achieve this through the compilation of relevant news articles, allowing users to have a voice, enlightening consumers on the options that are available, providing comparative statistics on ISPs, as well as the production of special features and commentary.

It is designed to be a community effort, to utilize information and feedback from broadband users and potential customers across Malaysia. We also aim to gain cooperation from the various broadband players in Malaysia, as well as support from government agencies and regulators.

Currently, we are focused on the Klang Valley, however in time we aim to expand this initiative nationwide. Let's all collaborate - to make fast, cheap and efficient broadband available throughout Malaysia.

- “Broadband kita terlalu mahal”.

Sekian, terima kasih.

Hello Mr Josh Lim. Thank you for your comment at my blog. Highly appreciated indeed.

Btw, some people don’t like (and even got angry) with the so-called ‘extremely biased comparison’ of Malaysia-Ireland. I consciously believe this might be true, because I did not take Human Development Index, HDI (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_Development_Index) of both countries into account. After all Ireland has many giant internet companies like Microsoft, Google and E-bay albeit its lack of pseudo-Silicon Valley project like MSC.

However when I made a simple comparison of Malaysia-South Africa, Malaysia is far superior in terms of HDI, and ironically South Africa has better ISP. The main ISP there now has introduced 4.0 mbps ADSL for both home and business users for only Rand 516/month (around RM 253). But our Telekom Malaysia can only give 2.0 mbps ADSL for the price of RM1118/month. I have mentioned this thing in the comment section of my blog post.

And sometimes the price is not the only main concern here. TM is notoriusly known for its bad reputation of customer services. We all know that. Let me tell you one story. I once signed-up for a wireless broadband here. I did it on Thursday, online. Guess what. The next Monday, I received the modem and can use it right away. Very impressive.

Anyway let’s see how WiMax can change the current state of our broadband.

At this moment in Malaysia, pricing is a problem but the QoS in service is a BIG question.

What is the use of paying for a 1MBps for RM88 when you get speed less then 300Kbps? some even few Kbps, while others has internet yesterday but not today and this continues everyday, everymonth and its already few years now…

It does not matter how much is the cost of the service that TM is offering or how cheap is it? Its the QoS!!! and that can be taken into account to compare it with any countries in the world and that does not matter of population.

At this point, we are left far away……….behind…

I agree with you guys. I’ve got a friend who studied overseas and he just laughed at me on how slow it is the broadband in Malaysia. His webcam is like TV! Damn it. Anyway, these corporate tut tut is just want their pockets full.
Oh by the way, one of my friends who once worked for IBM and got some projects with TM, he said that TM use some “cikai” hardware for all the ports of Streamyx users. No wonder they always burn out and need to be replaced.

March 24 2007 || 12:48 pm

you telling grandmother stories ah? what “cikai” hardware are u talking about??? lets not stray away from basic facts and figures that make this blog so popular. and a common distaste for TM of course. ha ha.. anyway, for all you know, people in AH-FRIKA have a blog just like this to diss the big bad ISP, for giving them less than 4mbit ADSL, and not fixing their burnt out modems on the same day. and about us depending on the US for internet, do u have any idea what the internet actually is? just imagine if u will, a bunch of computers sitting around all over the world. thats nothing. if they’re connected, then they are called the INTERNET! most of the websites u visit are FROM the US, hence our dependence on them. so if you dont want us to depend on US, then, stop visiting US-sites lor, or, better yet, make malaysian hosted sites the best in the world, then US DEPEND ON US. wah. gaya betul. but unlikely. and. btw, Singapore is like paying TOL on the information super highway.. u know on your way to US, where 50% of the traffic (OR MORE) is probably porn related, and we cant host such things here, so we probably wont beat the US anywway. WOW TOL is a whole new debate. so i better stop.

tmnet streamyx suck do u all know that. i said that because when i got the streamyx package which was RM44 60 hours plan and wanted to upgrade to RM66 unlimited plan. i when to tmpoint to do my upgrade on the 19 of April. when i called them on the 26 of April, they said that the upgrade was successful and i started to use it 24/7. When i went to the tm site on 11 of May to check my account balance, it was billed more then i have to pay for which was RM66 for unlimited usage. so i called them and ask why. they said i am on the same old RM44 plan and the upgrade is still in process. that is what they said to me. i was unsatisfied with the answer that they gave me. because the upgrade should be within 3 days to 1 week which is what they told me (tmpoint and on the phone). and it has been already more then 1 week. this is stupid of them to deny what they have said. this is over doing of them. what is the government doing. are they still pumping money for them to survive and let them sleep on their job???????
