However, 3G will not feature in its future plans, at least at this point. DiGi appears adamant that it’ll not be leasing capacity from or taking up equity stakes in either of the two companies that were awarded 3G bandwidths in February.
The fiesta, which is to encourage the adoption of broadband lifestyle, targeting the urban, young market, is undertaken by TM Net Sdn Bhd (TM Net) and its partners, FTec System Sdn Bhd and AZ-Technology Sdn Bhd.
According to Lai, hard disk failure was the cause of the incident which occurred at 9am on March 30, which affected some 5,000 of TM Net’s active e-mail service customers. The problem was resolved within three hours, he said.
“We are proud to be able to facilitate UUM’s strategic plan to use ICT as a platform to pursue knowledge. Learning and teaching will certainly be easier and more exciting with broadband technology,”

Datuk Seri Dr Lim Keng Yaik said the telcos have become monopolistic, which is also hindering the development of the nation’s information and communications technology (ICT) industry.

“I gave the 3G licence to the two firms to promote content development,” Lim said. “It’s about time.”
