According to its chief executive officer John Chambers, Malaysia has many advantages that many other emerging markets do not have.

DVM Technology Bhd has come up with a new broadband telephony solution known as Genico Broadband Telephony, which they claim is the first complete class of carrier-grade broadband Internet Protocol (IP) telephony solution suite.

By 2010, it wants broadband penetration to grow to at least 15% of the population compared with 5% now and to boost 3G coverage to five million subscribers.
Over the same period, the government also wants industry players to roll out mobile TV to at least 90% of mobile users and digital multimedia broadcasting to 95% of households.

Known as 3.5G, the network promises a data download speed of up to 14Mbps (megabits per second) and an upload speed of up to 1.8Mbps.
A 3G network has download speeds of up to 384Kbps (kilobits per second), and uploads at up to 64Kbps. For example, a 1MB MP3 file (such as a one-minute song) would take 22.4 seconds to download via a 3G network, and only 4.1 seconds via a 3.5G system.
